How do I recover hard drive space lost with CCleaner?
A few months back, I used CCleaner to wipe the free space on my disk. What it did was reduce my 250GB hard drive to 232GB. Once I realized it was decreasing and killing my GB's, I canceled the process in CCleaner. Since, I've never been able to recover my missing GB's. I'm an experienced user, so I know that windows takes some of the memory and reduces the capacity. There is no partition currently on the drive. I read that there is a program like CCleaner that works by filling the free space with 45mb files, then wiping them all. Is this how CCleaner works? How can I recover my lost space?

Connect a hard drive using a 3 in 1 adapter. It shows a USB mass storage device connecting to my computer in the lower right side of my screen, but I can't access the hard drive. How do I do this?The hard drive being connected is one from another laptop that had the screen die possibly some boot issues as well . My computer was set to automatic updates from Windows, and when it last updated and prompted me to restart, upon restart the computer would not complete POST. It gets to the Windows xp page, but then goes to the page with safe boot options. No matter which option I choose, including Last known good configuration, it will not complete post and returns back to the safe mode boot page in an endless loop. i was having problems with PC and i did system restore several tries with everything unplugged. long story short in one of my succesful attempts i plugged external drive back on pc where i had all of my back up files, i restarted pc and black screen appeared saying operating system not found so i did a full system recovery and formatted drive and created a new recovery partition, well stupid me forgot to unplug usb and now my external drive is the recovery partition AND ALL MY FILES ARE GONE. Is there any way to recover them? i have lost of important files such as my compositions, pictures, and not to mention my 40gb collection of MUSIC PLEASE HELPthats the problem the external drive was my backup with my own composition and recordings and other very important files, i dont care about recovering the pc files.im willing to buy software as long as i recover the files, they are very important, please give recommendations.

Yesterday I posted a Q regard'g installation of XP in another lang. still not sure how it happened, but... . My brother reset language settings in every possible way... nothing chgd.Instead of un reinstalling XP, my brother went into bios, dos, etc, etc, and eventually " deleted" my hard drive ? from what I understood him saying. Although original in pc was ME, he tried a Windows 2000 Emergency Startup Disk, but it doesn't help me...1 I am able to " choose" Safe Mode, but it does NOT startup only stays in A prompt mode 2 The above problem gives me no Help Menu option3 My hard drive is just not RECONIZED Any suggestions at this point?P.S. I have an installation CD for Windows 2000, which DOES give me the English version option lol , but it doesn't find the hard drive back to square one .Pls help???Thx Rose

all my mkv avi vobs etc play with the right player i use vlc but they are listed by crazy file types like ai asi asf 3gp which are all valid types but not what the file types were before the drive crashedthe drive is an external c drive is fine the files are stable just listed incorrectly i would try to rename them with txt method but there is 45,960 files

so I left my computer downloading stuff overnight. It was working great before I slept, when I woke up, I see a command prompt saying " Disk read error. Press Ctrl Alt Del to restart." I reboot and it comes out again, obviously the HDD is detected, my CD Drive at the time, empty. nothing plugged but the mouse. I put up my Windows 7 install disc and booted from there to attempt a repair. On the repair screen, it doesn't detect my OS or my partitions at all. It says Unknown local disc on unknown local disk or something of that sort.I try reinstalling my OS, nothing happened. I tried command prompt to see if I can at least view files on my HDD, no bite. Lastly, I removed my HDD and put it in an enclosure in hopes of getting files out of it, no dice either. Laptop doesn't even detect the specific HDD but it detects the rest on USB plug .Any advice on the matter would greatly help, thanks when I attempted a repair at the repair screen, I chose start up repair and waited over an hour. it said the scans were complete, root cause error was corrupt system volume with an error code of 0x0 or something similar but it was deifnitly both 0s . Anyway, at some point it said attempting repairs, may take over an hour. I was going to wait but I had no time. Thinking of doing that on my next sleep. What do you think?
