Will a data recovery specialist report me to the government if I have pirated stuff on my HDD?
So recently, my hard drive failed me. I was told to go to a data recovery specialist. People told me I should go to professionals, however, I'm afraid of them reporting me to the government about things on my computer. I wouldn't be really worried, but the government is stepping up on pirating and stuff now. I don't want to lose the stuff I have on my hard drive because I have a project I've been working on for 2 months.Link me to some good data recovery specialists?
Hard disk partition/data recovery?
My external 1TB HD died i cannot see it in " my computer" on my Vista or XP system can see it under disk management in vista but not XP but it will not initialize under disk management .Listed under device manager in both xp and vistais there a disk checking utility that can scan for bad sectors ect with out an " active" partition?i have searched the net and i have found a few different programs for " restoring" a partition or data recovery but the data recovery program i find seem to need a set partition and the partition recover software seems to take a VERY long time i got one started before i went to sleep and it ran for close to 8 hours and if the % done was relatively real time it would have taken YEARS to scan the HD for a partitionNow just being able to plug it in and click next a few time would be great but I am savvy enough to be able to figure out more complex instructionswhat i am looking to do1 would like to be able to use drive as is recover everything and its just working YAY2 recover most of the data and still be able to use drive3 loss data but still have drive working4 recover data but drive mostly deadthank youi tried to take it out of the case and see if i could use it as an internal drive but the connections are almost integrated with the drive and i didn't want to totally disassemble it until all other options are exhausted.
Hard Drive - Data Recovery (more details provided this time)?
I have a Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 750GB SATA hard drive that has gone bad. Here are the details The BIOS recognizes it and shows the correct name for it. When I boot up, Windows 7 offers to do a ChkDsk, which I cancel should I let it do the ChkDsk or might that make the problem worse? . Device Manager lists it normally and says " This device is working properly" Disk Management in Computer Management says 698.63 GB RAW Healthy Primary Partition So it sees the drive but seems to think it's not formatted.I don't know of anything that happened to it but with three little boys in the house, anything could have happened.I have family snapshots on it and had gotten behind on backups, so I'd really prefer not to lose the data. Any suggestions on data recovery? Thanks,Greg

Data recovery after accidentally deleting the contents of a folder with Goodsync on PC?
Hi everyoneI have a question related to a monumental error I made today. I use a Windows 7 Ultimate desktop PC.I had been syncing data between an external HDD and my desktop PC, using Goodsync Enterprize. Using Goodsync, I made a backup of one folder on the external, onto a different folder that already had data in it, on the desktop. I thought it would add the files to the directory I was backing up, but instead it backed up the data from the external and DELETED the data originally residing on the folder on the desktop. This was not my plan at all, I thought it would simply add these backed up files to the files already in there. The contents of that folder which were delted are utterly invaluable to me and to lose that data is a real tangible loss. Here are the options I am aware of.1. I have a backup image of the hard drive which was taken before the files were deleted. I'd like to retrieve them from that but would rather not revert the entire hard drive image back since there have been a great many changes since then . The back up image is only 5gb in size though and was made from the 'backup and restrore' options in windows 7 ultimate would it be possible to retrieve them through that?2. I am aware of software that can retrieve deleted files. From my limited understanding of crytopgraphy and hard drive stuff, that provided the hard drive has not been physically destroyed or damaged and mine is fine that pretty much all files can be recovered, if you know what to do.FYI I am not in the position to pay epic money to a professional data recovery firm though I would if I could so would greatly appreciate ideas for cheap solutions or ways I can use my own means to retrieve this data.As I said before this means a huge, huge, huge amount to me, and I really, really appreciate your help and advice.
