I have an external hard drive that all of a sudden will not show up on the computer, it never got banged around or anything. I have alot of files on there that I really want, but I see that most data recovery services cost around $500 to get your stuff off.I'm wondering if theres a way to have the hard drive fixed by a computer shop of some sort, or if that would even be cheaper?I'm just looking for a positive answer here haha.thanks.
DIY hard drive repair?
I have a 60GB hard drive which has failed. When connected to the computer, upon bootup it will make this clicking sound as the computer tries to detect it. After a while the computer gives up and goes on with the boot process. The hard drive in unrecognized and thus unusable.The loud clicking sound is a big clue as to what failed in the hard drive. I suspect that someone out there must know what it is. I have several small hard drives that I can use for spare parts. I figure that all I have to do is replace the part that failed on the hard drive with a good part from my other hard drives and I'll have my 60GB up and working again.So what's causing the hard drive to make this clicking sound, and what needs to be replaced?I don't care too much about retrieving the data on it. It just seems to me that it could be an easy fix.

I need some advice, I have a hard drive that has crashed several times, does anyone know if there is a free software online that can detect and repair errors on the drive that made it crashed. I'm not talking about just a registry repair software, I need something specific just for hard drive repair.I already ran a disk check and it says no bad sectors but something has to be wrong otherwise it would not be crashing like this.I've seen many drive repair softwares already but you have to pay, my OS is Vista and it's a 32 bit. please let me know if you know of any, thank you.
I need help with a solo 9100 Gateway laptop Hard drive repair?
I have a SOLO 9100 laptop with a bios 8.56 U have not been able to get it working properly since I got the thing. Whenever I attempt to install and operating system, the hard drive claims none of the files can install. So my next ideas was to replace the hard drive. I replaced it with a 40 gb ide that fits perfectly fine. However, the computer freezes right in the bios every time I try to start it with the new hard drive. It works fine with the old one except for the copy error , so does anyone know how I can get this old laptop into working again?
